  • The Brooks Ghost 16 running shoe continues the brand's tradition of delivering a reliable and comfortable experience for neutral runners. Here’s a quick review:

Comfort and Fit: The Ghost 16 is known for its plush cushioning, thanks to the DNA LOFT v2 midsole. It provides a soft yet responsive feel underfoot, making it ideal for both long runs and daily training. The shoe offers a secure fit with a slightly roomier toe box compared to its predecessor, which can be a plus for those with wider feet or those who appreciate a bit more space upfront.

Upper Design: The engineered mesh upper is breathable and adapts well to the foot's shape, providing both support and flexibility. The 3D Fit Print technology adds structure without adding weight, which is great for maintaining a balance between comfort and durability.

Performance: The Ghost 16 excels in delivering a smooth and consistent ride. The Segmented Crash Pad ensures smooth heel-to-toe transitions, making it an excellent choice for runners who prioritize a fluid running experience. Whether you’re doing tempo runs or just cruising on an easy day, the Ghost 16 is versatile enough to handle a variety of paces.

Durability: The shoe’s outsole is durable, with plenty of traction for road running. However, it’s designed primarily for pavement, so while it can handle light trails, it’s not built for rugged terrain.

Style: The Ghost 16 comes in a variety of colorways, offering a mix of classic and bold options. The overall design is sleek and modern, appealing to both performance-focused runners and those who appreciate a stylish look.

Summary: The Brooks Ghost 16 is a solid choice for neutral runners seeking a reliable, comfortable, and versatile shoe. It offers a cushioned yet responsive ride, a secure fit, and the durability needed for daily training. Whether you’re new to running or a seasoned runner, the Ghost 16 is likely to meet your needs.

    Ghost 16 vs Ghost 15

When comparing the Brooks Ghost 16 to the Ghost 15, several updates and refinements have been made to enhance comfort, performance, and the overall running experience. Here's a detailed comparison between the two models:

    Cushioning and Midsole

    • Ghost 15: The Ghost 15 featured DNA LOFT v2 cushioning throughout the midsole, which provided a soft, smooth, and balanced ride. It was designed to offer a good mix of comfort and responsiveness, making it a versatile choice for various types of runs, from daily training to long-distance runs. The Ghost 15 was well-regarded for its reliable and consistent cushioning that worked well across different paces and distances.

    • Ghost 16: The Ghost 16 continues to use DNA LOFT v2 cushioning, but Brooks has made slight tweaks to improve the overall feel. The cushioning in the Ghost 16 feels slightly more refined, offering a softer and more responsive ride. The updates provide better shock absorption, making the shoe more comfortable for longer runs. The transition from heel to toe is smoother, and the overall ride feels a bit more cushioned compared to the Ghost 15, making the Ghost 16 a touch more comfortable, especially for those who appreciate a plush underfoot feel.

    Upper Design and Fit

    • Ghost 15: The Ghost 15 featured an engineered mesh upper that provided a secure and comfortable fit. The upper was breathable and flexible, adapting well to the shape of the foot. However, some runners found the fit to be slightly loose in the midfoot area, which could affect the overall lockdown.

    • Ghost 16: The Ghost 16's upper has been updated with a more refined engineered mesh that enhances both breathability and support. The fit in the Ghost 16 is slightly more snug and secure, particularly in the midfoot, which improves overall lockdown without compromising comfort. The upper is more adaptive, better accommodating different foot shapes and offering a more personalized fit. This update makes the Ghost 16 feel more stable and secure during runs, especially on longer distances.

    Ride and Performance

    • Ghost 15: The ride of the Ghost 15 was smooth and consistent, making it a popular choice for neutral runners. The shoe provided a balanced feel, with enough cushioning for comfort without sacrificing responsiveness. The Segmented Crash Pad in the outsole contributed to smooth transitions, making the Ghost 15 a versatile option for various paces and distances.

    • Ghost 16: The Ghost 16 builds on the ride quality of the Ghost 15 by offering a slightly softer and more cushioned experience. The updated midsole and upper contribute to a more plush feel, making the Ghost 16 even better suited for long runs and recovery days. The ride remains smooth and consistent, with the Segmented Crash Pad ensuring fluid transitions, but the overall feel is a bit more comfortable and cushioned than in the Ghost 15.

    Outsole and Durability

    • Ghost 15: The Ghost 15 featured a durable rubber outsole with a design that provided good traction and flexibility. The shoe was built to last, with the outsole holding up well over many miles. The tread pattern offered solid grip on a variety of surfaces, making the Ghost 15 reliable for road running and light trails.

    • Ghost 16: The outsole of the Ghost 16 is similar in design to the Ghost 15 but with slight improvements in rubber placement and flexibility. The updates provide better grip and enhance the shoe’s durability, ensuring it can handle high mileage without significant wear. The Ghost 16 also offers improved flexibility, contributing to a more natural and comfortable ride.

    Weight

    • Ghost 15: The Ghost 15 was relatively lightweight for a cushioned trainer, making it a versatile choice for runners who wanted comfort without feeling weighed down.

    • Ghost 16: The Ghost 16 maintains a similar weight profile, but it feels slightly lighter on the foot due to the refined upper and midsole materials. This contributes to a more agile and responsive running experience, making the Ghost 16 feel more nimble while still providing excellent cushioning.

    Aesthetics and Style

    • Ghost 15: The Ghost 15 had a modern design with a variety of colorways, appealing to a wide range of runners. The overall look was sleek and functional, with a focus on performance.

    • Ghost 16: The Ghost 16 continues with a similar aesthetic but with subtle updates to the design, offering a more streamlined and polished look. The colorways are vibrant and appealing, giving the Ghost 16 a fresh, updated appearance that reflects its refined performance.

    Summary:

The Brooks Ghost 16 is a refined and slightly more comfortable version of the Ghost 15. The updates in the Ghost 16, particularly in the midsole cushioning and upper design, make it a better option for runners seeking enhanced comfort, especially on longer runs. The shoe offers a smoother, more cushioned ride while maintaining the same reliable performance and versatility that the Ghost series is known for.

    • Choose the Ghost 15 if you’re happy with a balanced, responsive ride and don’t mind a slightly firmer feel.
    • Opt for the Ghost 16 if you’re looking for a softer, more cushioned experience with an improved fit and a slightly lighter feel.

Both models are excellent choices for neutral runners, but the Ghost 16 offers some small but meaningful upgrades that enhance the overall running experience, particularly in terms of comfort and fit.

Get The Right Size!

Improper shoe sizing and shape are the primary cause of ingrown toenails, bunions, corns and hammer toes. Sounds fun, doesn't it? It's not. Shoes that don’t fit your feet correctly can also lead to muscular imbalances in the body, opening the door to foot, knee and hip injuries.

The More You Know..

Most runners get shoes too small for them because they don't take into account these factors:

    • When a load is applied to your foot by running, your foot will spread up to half an inch in length. One shoe size is only 1/3 inch.
    • If allowed, your foot will splay 15 percent in width under load.
    • Your foot is widest at the toes (but most shoes are not).

    Tips on sizing

    • Do not assume you are the same size as a previous shoe.

    • If your feet are slightly different sizes, get your shoes to fit the larger foot.
