The Brooks Glycerin GTS 21 is a stability version of the popular Glycerin 21, combining the plush cushioning of the Glycerin line with the supportive GuideRails® system typically found in the Adrenaline GTS series. Here’s a detailed review:
Comfort and Cushioning:
The Glycerin GTS 21 features the same DNA LOFT cushioning as the standard Glycerin 21, offering a soft and luxurious feel underfoot. The cushioning extends throughout the midsole, providing a plush ride that is particularly well-suited for long-distance running and recovery runs. The shoe is designed to absorb impact and deliver a smooth, comfortable experience, making it ideal for runners who prioritize a cushioned and protective ride.
Stability and Support:
What sets the Glycerin GTS 21 apart from the regular Glycerin 21 is the inclusion of Brooks’ GuideRails® support system. This system is designed to keep excess movement in check, particularly for runners who overpronate (when the foot rolls inward too much during the gait cycle). The GuideRails® technology offers subtle, holistic support, focusing on keeping the runner's stride aligned and reducing stress on the knees. Unlike traditional stability shoes that use a medial post, the GuideRails® system provides support only when needed, allowing for a more natural and less intrusive running experience.
Upper Design and Fit:
The Glycerin GTS 21 features an engineered mesh upper that is both breathable and supportive. The upper adapts well to the shape of the foot, providing a snug yet comfortable fit. The internal bootie construction adds to the shoe's overall comfort, offering a seamless and irritation-free experience. The 3D Fit Print technology enhances the structure of the upper without adding unnecessary weight, ensuring that the foot is well-supported throughout the run. The toe box is roomy enough to accommodate various foot shapes, while the midfoot fit is secure, providing stability without feeling overly tight.
Ride and Performance:
The ride of the Glycerin GTS 21 is smooth and stable, combining the plush cushioning of the Glycerin line with the added support of the GuideRails® system. This makes the shoe ideal for long-distance running, daily training, and recovery runs, especially for runners who need a bit of extra stability. The DNA LOFT cushioning provides a soft and protective feel, while the GuideRails® system ensures that the foot stays aligned, reducing the risk of injury and promoting a more efficient running form. The shoe offers a balanced mix of cushioning and support, making it suitable for a wide range of running activities.
Outsole and Durability:
The outsole of the Glycerin GTS 21 is durable, with strategically placed rubber to provide good traction and extend the life of the shoe. The tread pattern offers solid grip on a variety of surfaces, including wet roads, making the shoe versatile for different running conditions. The Segmented Crash Pad ensures smooth transitions from heel to toe, contributing to the shoe's overall comfort and performance. The durability of the outsole, combined with the high-quality materials used in the midsole and upper, makes the Glycerin GTS 21 a reliable option for high-mileage runners.
Weight:
For a stability shoe with such plush cushioning, the Glycerin GTS 21 is relatively lightweight. While it’s not as light as some performance-oriented models, it strikes a good balance between cushioning, support, and weight, making it a comfortable option for daily training without feeling too heavy.
Aesthetics and Style:
The Glycerin GTS 21 has a sleek and modern design, with several colorway options to suit different tastes. The overall look is clean and stylish, appealing to runners who want both performance and aesthetics in their footwear.
Use Cases:
- Overpronation: The GuideRails® system makes the Glycerin GTS 21 ideal for runners who overpronate or need additional support to maintain proper alignment during their runs.
- Long Runs: The plush cushioning and stability make this shoe a great choice for long-distance running, where comfort and support are crucial.
- Daily Training: The Glycerin GTS 21 is versatile enough for daily runs, particularly for those who prefer a more cushioned experience.
- Recovery Runs: The soft ride is perfect for recovery runs, offering protection and comfort for tired legs.
Summary:
The Brooks Glycerin GTS 21 is an excellent choice for runners who need stability and support but don't want to compromise on cushioning and comfort. It combines the plush ride of the Glycerin line with the effective GuideRails® system, making it a versatile and reliable option for those who overpronate or require a bit more structure in their running shoes. Whether you're logging long miles, recovering from a hard workout, or just looking for a comfortable daily trainer, the Glycerin GTS 21 offers a balanced mix of cushioning, support, and durability.

Proper Shoe Fit
Get The Right Size!
Improper shoe sizing and shape are the primary cause of ingrown toenails, bunions, corns and hammer toes. Sounds fun, doesn't it? It's not. Shoes that don’t fit your feet correctly can also lead to muscular imbalances in the body, opening the door to foot, knee and hip injuries.
The More You Know..
Most runners get shoes too small for them because they don't take into account these factors:
- When a load is applied to your foot by running, your foot will spread up to half an inch in length. One shoe size is only 1/3 inch.
- If allowed, your foot will splay 15 percent in width under load.
- Your foot is widest at the toes (but most shoes are not).
Tips on sizing
- Do not assume you are the same size as a previous shoe.
- If your feet are slightly different sizes, get your shoes to fit the larger foot.
- Use this shoe sizing chart:
