The Clifton 11 is best described as a refinement rather than a redesign. After the dramatic overhaul that came with the Clifton 10, HOKA chose to leave the successful midsole geometry largely unchanged. The Clifton 11 retains the same compression-molded EVA (CMEVA) foam, 42 mm stack height (men's), and 8 mm heel-to-toe drop as the Clifton 10, so the underfoot ride feels very familiar. The updates are concentrated in the upper, where a softer engineered jacquard mesh, improved heel collar, and more accommodating fit make the shoe noticeably more comfortable over long miles while maintaining a secure lockdown.
Compared with the Clifton 10, the Clifton 11 offers a more polished overall experience without significantly changing the ride. The Clifton 10 represented one of the biggest updates in the series' history, increasing stack height, raising the drop from 5 mm to 8 mm, widening the platform, and creating a firmer, more stable feel than previous Cliftons. While many runners appreciated the added stability and smoother transitions, others felt it had lost some of the soft, plush personality that defined earlier versions. The Clifton 11 preserves the stability and efficient rocker of the Clifton 10 while improving step-in comfort and reducing pressure points through its redesigned upper.
On the run, both shoes excel as daily trainers for easy runs, recovery days, long runs, and walking. Neither is designed to be a speed-focused shoe, but both provide smooth heel-to-toe transitions thanks to HOKA's MetaRocker geometry. The Clifton 11 feels slightly more refined because the upper wraps the foot better and allows for a more natural fit, making it easier to forget about the shoe during long runs. Performance differences are subtle enough that runners already happy with the Clifton 10 won't notice a dramatic change in cushioning or responsiveness.
Overall, the Clifton 11 is the better shoe, but only by a small margin. If you're purchasing new, the Clifton 11 is the obvious choice because it delivers a more comfortable upper without sacrificing the dependable ride introduced in the Clifton 10. However, if you already own the Clifton 10 and it's working well for you, there is little reason to upgrade solely for performance. The Clifton 11 is an evolutionary update focused on comfort and fit rather than a revolutionary change in how the shoe runs.

Proper Shoe Fit
Get The Right Size!
Improper shoe sizing and shape are the primary cause of ingrown toenails, bunions, corns and hammer toes. Sounds fun, doesn't it? It's not. Shoes that don’t fit your feet correctly can also lead to muscular imbalances in the body, opening the door to foot, knee and hip injuries.
The More You Know..
Most runners get shoes too small for them because they don't take into account these factors:
- When a load is applied to your foot by running, your foot will spread up to half an inch in length. One shoe size is only 1/3 inch.
- If allowed, your foot will splay 15 percent in width under load.
- Your foot is widest at the toes (but most shoes are not).
Tips on sizing
- Do not assume you are the same size as a previous shoe.
- If your feet are slightly different sizes, get your shoes to fit the larger foot.
- Use this shoe sizing chart:
