The Brooks Beast GTS 24 (or Ariel GTS 24 for women) is a stability-focused running shoe designed to provide exceptional support, cushioning, and durability for overpronators and those who need extra control in their stride. Here’s a comprehensive review of the shoe:
Key Features:
-
Stability:
- The Beast GTS 24 is equipped with GuideRails® support technology, which helps reduce excessive movement in the knees, hips, and ankles. It is ideal for runners with overpronation, offering a balanced and controlled stride.
- The GuideRails® system actively supports your feet, aligning your body to minimize injury risk, making it great for long-distance runs and those needing extra support.
-
Cushioning:
- Brooks has used its DNA LOFT v2 cushioning, which provides a soft, plush underfoot feel without being overly squishy. This cushioning is lighter and more responsive than in previous models, offering a smooth and stable ride while maintaining durability.
- The cushioning in the Beast GTS 24 is designed for maximum shock absorption, making it ideal for runners who require high-impact protection or who run on harder surfaces like asphalt or concrete.
-
Fit and Comfort:
- The upper features engineered air mesh that offers a combination of breathability, durability, and a snug fit. The shoe molds well to the foot, offering a comfortable, secure feel without being restrictive.
- The roomy toe box is a highlight for runners with wider feet or those who need extra space, making it comfortable for longer runs and all-day wear.
-
Supportive Upper and Heel:
- Brooks has reinforced the heel area to prevent any unwanted slippage, ensuring that the foot stays securely in place. The shoe's design is geared towards comfort and stability, which is essential for those who need more structured support.
- The fit around the heel and midfoot is firm but not tight, ensuring your foot stays aligned, helping reduce any unwanted inward roll or overpronation.
-
Durability:
- The durable rubber outsole offers excellent grip and is built to handle a high mileage, ensuring the Beast GTS 24 will last through many miles. It’s particularly strong in terms of wear and tear, even on rough surfaces or daily road use.
- The shoe’s materials are built to last, making it a dependable choice for heavier runners or those who need maximum durability.
-
Weight:
- The Beast GTS 24 is heavier than other Brooks models, weighing in at about 12.5 oz (for men’s size 9). This added weight comes from the extra support and cushioning, making it better suited for stability and long-distance runs rather than speed-focused runners.
Pros:
- Exceptional stability for overpronators.
- Plush, responsive cushioning that absorbs shock well.
- Durable design suited for high-mileage running.
- Roomy toe box, ideal for wider feet or those needing more space.
- Reliable grip and traction, even on slick or uneven surfaces.
Cons:
- Heavier than many other running shoes, which may not appeal to speed-focused runners.
- The firm support may feel too structured for those who prefer a more flexible or minimalistic shoe.
- Some runners might find the price point higher due to its specialized support features.
Ideal For:
- Runners who overpronate or need extra stability and knee support.
- Heavier runners who require durable shoes with maximum cushioning.
- Long-distance road runners or walkers looking for high shock absorption and support.
- Individuals with flat feet or who experience knee and ankle discomfort during runs.
Overall Verdict:
The Brooks Beast GTS 24 is a top choice for runners needing strong stability and cushioning. Its GuideRails® support system, plush cushioning, and durability make it ideal for those looking for extra control in their gait. Although it is on the heavier side, its protection and comfort make it perfect for long-distance runners who prioritize support over speed. If you're a runner who values stability, comfort, and durability in your shoe, the Beast GTS 24 is a dependable and effective option.
Heel to Toe Drop: 12mmProper Shoe Fit
Get The Right Size!
Improper shoe sizing and shape are the primary cause of ingrown toenails, bunions, corns and hammer toes. Sounds fun, doesn't it? It's not. Shoes that don’t fit your feet correctly can also lead to muscular imbalances in the body, opening the door to foot, knee and hip injuries.
The More You Know..
Most runners get shoes too small for them because they don't take into account these factors:
- When a load is applied to your foot by running, your foot will spread up to half an inch in length. One shoe size is only 1/3 inch.
- If allowed, your foot will splay 15 percent in width under load.
- Your foot is widest at the toes (but most shoes are not).
Tips on sizing
- Do not assume you are the same size as a previous shoe.
- If your feet are slightly different sizes, get your shoes to fit the larger foot.
- Use this shoe sizing chart:
