The Brooks Ariel GTS 24 is the women’s version of the Brooks Beast GTS, specifically designed to provide maximum support and stability for overpronators. It’s a motion control shoe that focuses on helping runners with flat feet or other conditions that require extra stability. Here's a detailed review of the Ariel GTS 24:
Key Features:
-
GuideRails® Support System:
- The Ariel GTS 24 features Brooks’ GuideRails® support system, which goes beyond simply correcting overpronation. This system helps reduce excess movement in the knees and hips, offering holistic support that helps align your entire body during runs.
- The GuideRails® stabilize your gait and limit any inward rolling of the foot (overpronation), providing extra control for those who need it, especially for runners prone to injury or those with flat feet.
-
Cushioning:
- The shoe is equipped with DNA LOFT v2 cushioning, offering a plush and soft underfoot feel. Despite the thick cushioning, it still provides good responsiveness and shock absorption, making it ideal for runners looking for a smooth and comfortable ride.
- It’s designed to absorb the impact during runs, reducing strain on the joints, which is crucial for long-distance runners or those with joint concerns.
-
Fit and Comfort:
- The engineered air mesh upper enhances breathability and comfort, allowing for a snug but flexible fit that molds to the shape of your foot. The fit is generally roomy, especially in the toe box, which is great for runners with wider feet or those who prefer extra space.
- Extra padding in the heel and collar area adds comfort, especially for longer runs or walking.
-
Durability:
- The Ariel GTS 24 is built to last, with a durable rubber outsole that provides solid traction on a variety of surfaces. The shoe’s construction is robust, making it suitable for high-mileage runners or those who need a durable everyday shoe for walking or running.
- The outsole has good traction and can handle different road conditions, but it’s primarily designed for pavement and smooth trails.
-
Weight:
- As a motion control shoe, the Ariel GTS 24 is on the heavier side, weighing around 12.8 oz (for women’s size 8). The extra weight comes from the stability features and the plush cushioning, which may feel cumbersome for runners who prefer lighter shoes, but it provides the necessary support for overpronators.
-
Arch Support and Stability:
- This shoe offers maximum arch support for runners with flat feet or fallen arches, making it a go-to for anyone who needs additional structure to correct their stride.
- The reinforced heel and side walls provide added stability and keep your foot securely in place, reducing the risk of twisting or rolling during runs.
Pros:
- Excellent stability for overpronators or runners with flat feet.
- Soft and comfortable DNA LOFT v2 cushioning for shock absorption.
- Durable and well-suited for high-mileage training.
- Spacious fit, particularly in the toe box, which is ideal for wider feet.
- Long-lasting support that helps with knee, ankle, and hip alignment.
Cons:
- Heavier than other running shoes, which might be a downside for speed-focused runners.
- Some may find the fit overly spacious, especially those with narrow feet.
- Price point may be higher compared to more neutral shoes, but it's justified by the support and stability features.
Ideal For:
- Runners who overpronate or need motion control due to flat feet or fallen arches.
- Individuals who need extra support to reduce strain on the knees, hips, and lower body.
- Walkers or runners who require a durable, stable shoe for everyday use, particularly for long-distance runs or all-day comfort.
- People recovering from injury or prone to discomfort in the joints, as the shoe is designed to protect and stabilize the lower body.
Overall Verdict:
The Brooks Ariel GTS 24 is a fantastic choice for women who need maximum support and stability. Its GuideRails® support system and plush DNA LOFT v2 cushioning provide the perfect combination of control and comfort for overpronators, flat-footed runners, and those needing motion control. While it’s a bit heavier than other models, it’s a dependable, durable shoe that prioritizes stability and injury prevention, making it ideal for long runs, walking, or everyday wear. If you require a high level of support and cushioning, the Ariel GTS 24 delivers on all fronts.

Proper Shoe Fit
Get The Right Size!
Improper shoe sizing and shape are the primary cause of ingrown toenails, bunions, corns and hammer toes. Sounds fun, doesn't it? It's not. Shoes that don’t fit your feet correctly can also lead to muscular imbalances in the body, opening the door to foot, knee and hip injuries.
The More You Know..
Most runners get shoes too small for them because they don't take into account these factors:
- When a load is applied to your foot by running, your foot will spread up to half an inch in length. One shoe size is only 1/3 inch.
- If allowed, your foot will splay 15 percent in width under load.
- Your foot is widest at the toes (but most shoes are not).
Tips on sizing
- Do not assume you are the same size as a previous shoe.
- If your feet are slightly different sizes, get your shoes to fit the larger foot.
- Use this shoe sizing chart:
